What is a cake board and how do you choose one?

A cake board is a base for supporting and presenting a cake. Construction, stated material or covering, height or thickness and load capacity may differ between products. Compare diameter or side dimensions, shape, finish, pack quantity and stated use on each product page. Do not infer the material from colour alone or assume that every board has the same properties.

Cake boards for tiered, heavy and celebration cakes

Some products are described for tiered cakes, heavy cakes or fondant-covered designs. For wedding cakes, anniversary cakes and other celebration projects, choose only a board whose page confirms suitable construction, dimensions, height and capacity, and follow the relevant assembly instructions.

Can a cake board be covered or decorated?

Some cake boards may be finished with ribbon or decorative coverings, including fondant when the product permits it. Before applying fondant, adhesives or other materials, check the instructions, declared food-contact suitability and whether a barrier is required. The same method is not suitable for every board.
